My Concept
The idea for the project was to create a connector between the north and east wings of annex central building on the Wentworth Institute of Technology campus. my concept begins by focusing on the relationship between staggered levels of primary vs. secondary structure and how they dictate the programmatic spaces throughout the building. Two major load-bearing walls allow the structure to be open and divided into three separate bays, based upon the program. The architectural and industrial design studios are of high priority, and thus are placed on the top floor for maximum space gain. Interior Design and Civil Engineering will each occupy the middle floor have their own designated space in order to keep the departments separate. Through this idea, my facades will be shaped around how my structure reacts to staggered levels based up on the programmatic spaces. The administrative spaces are focused on the first floor for easy access for faculty and guests. The skin, much like the Seattle Public Library, will be wrapped around the exterior of the building. The main idea is to give each department their own space with all of their needs met while creating a open and free thinking spaces to learn.
